Valparaiso is a colorful city in the center of Chile. The seaport of the city used to be a very important and major, until the opening of the Panama Canal that reduced ship traffic. Valparaiso offers a lot of viewpoints of the surrounding hills and neighborhoods.
We stayed at Millenium House hostel. When we arrived there we were disappointed. The beds were’nt comfortable, the owner didn’t speak English, and the overall apperance was boring and not so welcoming. After spending the night there, I woke up with bed bugs bites, so we decided to leave earlier and had only a shourt time in Valparaiso.
Our rating for Millenium House is 4 out of 10.
Everyday at noon time, there is a guided free walking tour around Valparaiso. At the end of the tour, you give the guide a tip. Since we wanted to learn more about the city, and only had a short time for our visit, it seemed like the best option for us. And we glad we did it! The walking tour was really fun, the guide was informative and nice, and we visited some interesting areas.
During the walking tour around Valparaiso we loved the graffiti that you can see anywhere, which makes the city very colorful and special. As artists, we really appreciate good graffiti, especially when it makes the city more attractive.
We walked along colorful stairs and houses, and visited some beautiful viewpoints of the city. The guide explained that many of the houses in Valparaiso are so colorful because of sailors that used to arrive the city with a lot of leftovers of color, so they just painted houses. We always like colorful houses.
Valparaiso is a cool city with a lot of street art, hills, viewpoints and museums, and you can easily spend some days here.
