Packing List For South America

This is my packing list for long term travel in South America. Hope I didn’t take too much! (=

My backpack: Deuter aircontact pro 60 liter

Daypack: The North Face 34 liter plus a rain cover


– 2 T-shirts and 3 tank tops

– 2 long sleeve shirts

– 1 fleece shirt

– 1 wind-block jacket

– 1 sweatshirt

– 2 pairs shorts and 4 pants ( one pair convertible pants)

– 6 underwear, 6 pair of socks, 3 bras and 1 bikini

– 1 rain poncho

– Merrel hiking shoes and Source sandals


– Small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hairbrush

– Deodorant

– Razor

– Small scissors, nail clippers and tweezers

– Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss

– Lip salve with SPF

– Sun cream

– Anti-bacterial hand gel

– Wet-wipes

– Some more girl stuff…

– Foldable wash bag with a hook to hang in the bathroom


– After-bite cream

– Acamol pills

– Malaria tablets

– Water purification tablets

– Thermometer

– Sansa clip mp3 player and earphones

– Iphone

– Nikon D90 camera

– Chargers

– Small laptop

– USB memory stick


– Passport

– Photocopies of passport

– VISA credit card, student card and driving license

– Vaccination certificate


– Locks and a cable

– Money belt with dollars

– Reusable shopping bag to minimize plastic bag usage

– Small notebook and a pen

– Some plastic bags

– Prescription sunglasses and an extra pair of glasses

– Source hydration pack

– Headlamp

– Travel towel

– 2 books
