No trip to Patagonia is complete without visiting the amazing Perito Moreno Glacier, the main attraction of Los Glaciers National Park. Perito Moreno Glacier is impressive, beautiful, and definitely worth a visit.
First, get to El Calafate, the town is located between Torres del Paine in Chile, and El Chalten in Argentina, which makes it a covenient stop. We didn’t find any available beds on our budget online, so we decided to arrive there and hope for the best. We took a bus from Puerto Natales in Chile to El Calafate, and because of delays, we arrived around mid night.
Unfortunately, we realized that we arrived El Calafate during a festival, so almost every place was overbooked. We ended up staying 1 over-expensive night at My Hotel Calafate, and then 1 more night in a very cheap Israeli hostel, to balance our expenses…You can always count on Israelis to tell you about cheap places to sleep!(=
It wasn’t an exiting-fun festival, you couldn’t even notice it, exept for the fact that all the hostels were full! So remember to try and book a hostel about a week in advance…
In the morning we went to the bus station to buy a bus ticket to see the famous Perito Moreno Glacier. We took the bus at noon, and immidiately when we got there, we were amazed by the massive glacier.
The bus will wait for you and the other tourists for few hours, which is enough to walk around all the different platforms, take million of pictures, wait for some ice chunks to drop down, and admire the panoramic view. If you want you can do a guided tour where you walk with special equipment on the glacier itself. For us, admiring the glacier from the viewpoints was great.
