In the mid way between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo you can find the great town Paraty. Paraty is the perfect town that has everything: nice historic center with good atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and amazing nature surrounding.
We stayed at Backpackers House Paraty and had a wonderful time. The hostel has a warm atmosphere in a chillout style with many hammocks. The breakfast is great with a nice variety. The hostel is clean and located 1 minute walk from the bus station and 10 minutes walk from the historic center area. Pablo, the owner, is a great man that can help you with everything you need.
Our rating to Backpackers House Paraty is 8 out of 10.
We did a day trip with Pablo to the waterfalls area of Paraty. Pablo didn’t tell us much about the trip, so we didn’t know what to expect. Soon we found out what a big surprise this tour is.
In the morning we left the hostel with Pablo, his wife, his little girl and more family friends in his old volkswagen van. All the way to the mountains the views are stunning, green surroundings everywhere, a great tropical place.
Pablo took us to many spots at the forest and gave as a wonderful jungle adventure. We went to a small lake surrounded by a big rock and spilled some water and soap on the rock so we can slide all the way into the water. Later we went to a huge rock where you can jump to the water, and another huge natural slide called ‘Toboggan’, where you sit down in the water and slide fast on the rock ’till you get to the water. We also had a great lunch there while the tropical rain started. Crazy weather!
Next, we all went inside a watefall, and jumped of a rope swing into the water like tarzan. It was so scary and fun! Pablo’s daughter is the first one to try all the fun activities, which gave me the courage to enjoy everything eventhough I was a bit scared first.
We also fed cute wild monkeys in the jungle with fruits, and visit a cachaca factory where you can taste also homemade dulce de leche, and the landscape there is amazing.
This day was such a great, unexpected experience. One of our best days in Brazil! I’m so glad we went with Pablo’s family which are friendly and fun to travel with. If you stay in Paraty, don’t miss it, a fun day is guaranteed!
On the next morning we did a 6 hour boat tour of the beaches around Paraty. We arrived the port 10 minutes before the boats leave and just joined one. It was a nice day. The beaches are beautiful and fun to swim.
We also did a great daytrip from Paraty to Trinidade. Trinidade is a nice village with beautiful beaches. We took the 40 minutes bus from Paraty to Trinidade. The bus was extremely crowded, but once you get to the beach, you can find a lot of space to relax. We went to the amazing Cachadaco Beach, where you can enjoy a warm swim and have fun.
If you visit Rio De Janeiro or Sao Paulo, I really recommend adding Paraty to your travel. It’s a great place to relax and also enjoy the activities and admire the amazing tropical landscape.
Hi
Great blog! Planning on taking my family to SP & after reading about Paraty would love to go there. How did you get from SP to Paraty. Will it be crowded late march/early April?
Thanks
Hey Greg! Thanks for your comment. I think it’s a great idea to visit Paraty with your family. I was there around January and it wasn’t crowded at all. To reach Sao Paulo we took a 7 hours night bus from Paraty.
